Persona 3 Reload is Out This Friday

A full remake to one of the greatest JRPGs ever made is releasing on Friday. Persona 3 Reload is set to be a complete re-invention of the PS2 classic with updated visuals, quality of life improvements and additional content to bring it in line with the more modern games in the series. Information on the game has been slowly trickling out over the past year, and the changes and additions that are being provided here are almost turning the project into a completely new game.

Some of the highlights that have fans excited include being able to fully control each party member individually (which was originally a feature exclusive to the Portable version of the game), new, fully voiced lines for social links and a complete revamp of the dungeon system ‘Tartarus’. This revamp is more than just visuals, however, as it allows for less tedium in exploring the samey floors found in the original release. With the ability to obtain new ‘twilight fragments’ to unlock special abilities in the dungeon and the addition of higher risk, higher reward floors to up the challenge and spice up how players climb this seemingly infinite tower.

Whilst this does look to be the definitive version of this classic game, there are a couple of missing elements that have left some fans disappointed. These are the lack of a female protagonist and the post-story content titled ‘The Answer’ included in Persona 3: FES being left out of the package. While it is possible that these additions could be included as DLC later down the line, the fact that they are not included in the launch version has left it feeling somewhat incomplete. Despite this, with the changes and revamps to almost every other area of the game, this is still likely to be the best way to experience the original version of the game without any of the additions included in the FES and Portable rereleases.

With Persona 3 being such a fantastic classic game, it’s well worth picking this remake up if you’re a fan of the franchise or JRPGs in general. If you would rather wait for reviews before pre-ordering, there’s good news. The review embargo will lift at 17:00 GMT on 31st January, which is just enough time for them to sway you to pre-order if you were on the fence. The game launches on February 2nd, but make sure to clear your calendar if you’re thinking about picking it up since each Persona game reaches beyond 100 hours per playthrough. If this version is anything close to the original, however, it’ll be worth it.
