PlayStation State of Play Coming Tomorrow

In a recent blog, PlayStation have announced that they will be holding a new State of Play showcase on 31st January, which is tomorrow. This will take place at 22:00 GMT and will feature over 15 upcoming games for the PlayStation 5 and PSVR2 (although more attention will likely be given to the main console with this State of Play specifically). This marks the first showcase from Sony of the year and will likely announce some big projects for 2024, which is currently looking quite dry compared to 2023’s stacked line-up.

In the blog post, PlayStation announced that the State of Play will run for 40 minutes, which is quite typical of this showcase. What’s more interesting, however, is that they have announced two projects that will be having some sort of presence at the show: Rise of the Ronin and Stellar Blade. Rise of the Ronin is not too surprising considering its release date of 22 March later this year. This is especially true considering that we haven’t seen or heard any more information on the game since the Game Awards last year. Hopefully this will showcase some more actual gameplay and story details so we can see what Team Ninja’s latest project is about.

Stellar Blade, on the other hand, is a game that we’ve seen very little of over the last few years. It was initially announced as ‘Project Eve’ back in 2019 but, aside from a few teasers and a name change, nothing concrete has really been shown off in terms of gameplay. We know that the game is a third person action-adventure game (much like many other PlayStation exclusives) but what we’ve seen so far has been quite limited. It will be interesting, then, to finally see what developers ‘Shift Up’ have been creating for the past five years. Hopefully, we’ll receive some sort of release date or window too.

Aside from these two, the identity of the other games being shown are up in the air. We’ll likely see a short snippet of the upcoming Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, which is set to launch later next month. Other rumours indicate that we may potentially see some news on the Silent Hill 2 remake, Bioshock-like ‘Judas’ and possibly even Kojima’s Death Stranding 2. Considering that this is one of PlayStation’s longer State of Plays, hopefully, we get to see a substantial chunk of what the gaming giant has planned for 2024. You can check the showcase out on PlayStation’s official Twitch and YouTube channels this Wednesday at 22:00 GMT for a peek into what the company has coming later this year.
