There are 5 Game Remasters Releasing in Febuary

If you thought February may be a slow month for game releases, you likely haven’t seen just how many remakes and remasters that are coming out in the next four weeks. From complete reimagining of JRPG classics to slight touch ups to some phenomonal older releases, if you missed any of the following games when they first released decades ago, this is the best time to try them out:

Persona 3 Reload- February 2nd

Starting with a game that’s already actually released, Persona 3 Reload is a complete remake of the PS2 classic that needed a modern touch up. While the portable version was made available on modern consoles, a lot of the charm of the classic was lost and hindered the experience. Thankfully, Reload combines the quality of life features from portable with the exploration and expanded elements of its other release, FES. Essentially, this is the best way to play this classic game and is a perfect launching point into the franchise.

Tomb Raider I-III Remastered- February 14th

While less of a complete overhaul compared to many of the other titles on this list, the remasters of the first three Tomb Raider games are more than just a graphical touch up. What makes these releases difficult to play in modern times are the outdated controls that make Lara Croft feel more like a tank than an explorer. Thankfully, due to some quality of life improvements to movement and the save systems, modern audiences can experience the early roots of the series in the best way possible.

Mario V.S. Donkey Kong- February 16th

Sandwiched between Nintendo’s big remasters of Super Mario RPG and Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door is an often forgotten puzzle game that is finally receiving its time in the sun. Originally for the Game Boy Advance, this 2D puzzle platformer tasks the plumber with re-claiming toys stolen by Donkey Kong. Although its price point of £40 is very steep, the improved visuals and additional content are welcome. Out of all the releases on this list, however, it makes the most sense to wait for a sale with this one.

Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons Remake- February 28th

Launching on all modern consoles beside the Switch, this remake to the often forgotten 2013 indie release brings one of the most interesting control schemes to modern consoles. The game allows two players to experience the short but cutting story by using only one controller and sharing it as they play. This is done with each player using one control stick each, which can be a lot of fun. A predecessor to other greats like ‘It Takes Two’, this is a must play for any multiplayer game fan.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth- February 29th

Of course, the most anticipated game of the month is the sequel to 2020’s phenomenal ‘Final Fantasy VII Remake’. While the first game was a very faithful depiction of the first few hours of the original PS1 title, this entry looks to be far more of its own thing. While the characters, locations and story beats look to be quite familiar, everything else is a complete reimagining from the ground up. With this being one of the most hyped games of the year, this is definitely worth picking up.

With so many remasters and remakes coming out, there’s a lot of time for gamers to re-experience classics or play through them for the first time. Whether you’ve played the above games dozens of times before or are a completely new fan, make sure to check the review scores out before buying them- that’s if the GTA Remaster Trilogy’s original launch taught you anything.
