WB Games Shuts Down Monolith Games
Monolith Games- the studio behind the fantastic Shadow of Mordor series- is being shuttered later this year. As a result, the Wonder Woman game (that apparently had a lot of issues during its early planning stages) has been completely cancelled. Any other development on upcoming works have also been ended prematurely.

The annOuncement for the studio’s closure came alongside the confirmation that two other studios owned by WB Games would also be shutting down: Player First Games and Warner Bros Games San Diego. Player First were the team behind Multiversus and, with the servers for that project coming offline, the studio itself is also being axed. This marks a huge cut in jobs and talent for WB Games as they seek to focus on the more profitable Harry Potter and Game of Thrones releases.
Unfortunately, the shutdown of Monolith also means that the ‘Nemesis’ system that had been patented by the company back in 2021, will likely see no use until it expires until 2035 at the earliest. The Nemesis system (which comprises of a dynamic world in which enemies react to the actions of the player as well as other enemies to create rivals, allies and betrayls) was utilised to great effect in Shadow of Mordor when it launched back in 2014. Since then, it was used only once in Shadow of Mordor’s sequel, Shadow of War.

With the end of Monolith, its unlikely that WB Games will implement this into any of their other upcoming projects (unless they want to force it into a Game of Thrones setting). Since the creators of the system are being let go, its likely that WB will leave the system to rot until it becomes available to use for other studios in 2035. With a hard pivot to Harry Potter after the massive success of Hogwarts Legacy, the future of their other IPs is up in the air- much like the jobs of so many within Monolith, Player First and WB San Diego.
