Dragon Age: Veilguard is Already Available on PS Plus

Just four months after release, Bioware’s latest offering is being made available as part of PS Plus Premium- which works in the same way as Xbox Game Pass with hundreds of games available for a monthly fee. Seeing a non-first party AAA release coming to the service mere months after it was first made available for full price is indicative of the success (or lake thereof) for the latest Dragon Age release.

Veilguard was met with middling reviews from critics and fans who disliked the repetitive gameplay and poor writing. It felt like a very safe play it by numbers RPG that failed to capture any imagination from those who played it. Following a year that included Baldur’s Gate 3, of course the worst features of Veilguard were brought to the forefront with no mercy from its biggest critics. Veilguard wasn’t just critically panned- it didn’t do all too well commercially either.

This feeds into the stories that Dragon Age: Veilguard failed to meet sales expectations for EA. The game sold 1.5 million copies as of January- 50% less than what EA had projected. With a premier developer’s latest release being so quick to get sales, reductions and now being thrown into a subscription model, Dragon Age: Veilguard can’t be responsibly called anything other than a flop- both critically and commercially.

What this means for Bioware remains to be seen but their latest fumbling of their two biggest IPs (Mass Effect and Dragon Age) doesn’t bode well for what they have in store- especially with their next project apparently being Mass Effect 5. If you did want to check out Dragon Age: Veilguard, you can pick it up for sale pretty much anywhere or you can just pay for PS Plus Premium and get the full game for free in March.
