The Actress for Abby in Season 2 of The Last of Us has been Cast

In a recent Instagram post (see below) from HBO’s ‘The Last of Us’ TV show, it was announced that Kaitlyn Dever would be joining the production of the second season as the character of ‘Abby’. The actress is best known for recent movies including Booksmart and Ticket to Paradise. You may also recognise her as being the voice of Cassandra Drake, Nathan Drake’s daughter, at the end of Uncharted 4- meaning Naughty Dog and Dever have a history of working together, despite being quite brief.

This news comes after weeks of speculation and rumours and, as you might expect, has set the internet spiralling back to the heated online discussions of The Last of Us Part II. With Kaitlyn Dever playing the part of the infamous character of ‘Abby’, there’s been a lot of debate about how the show will recreate some of the more disturbing scenes from the game- and how this will impact the plot and characters throughout the season. If you know anything about the game or its online discourse, however, you know to expect some controversial takes and, unfortunately, likely some unwanted comments from fans towards Dever.

Hopefully, the arguments won’t get anywhere near the level of when the game released but, considering how ‘passionate’ a lot of fans get, I wouldn’t be too surprised. This is especially due to the TV show reaching a much wider and likely more diverse audience than when the game was released. Unfortunately, however, fans have already begun their bizarre complaints from the casting alone. One Twitter user had the following to say regarding Dever being announced to play Abby:

Hopefully, however, as the second season’s release draws nearer, fans will be more accepting towards Dever’s casting and character. A similar cycle happened with Bella Ramsey when she was cast for the role of Ellie and even Pedro Pascal as Joel to some degree. Thankfully, once the show actually released, a lot of these doubts were quelled. With season 2 slated to be hitting the small screen in 2025, there’s still a lot of time for speculation as to how HBO will adapt one of the most controversial stories in gaming but, considering the strength of the first season, there’s every chance that it will prove to be fantastic.
