Tekken 8 Is Another Win for Fighting Game Fans

The latest entry in Japan’s biggest fighting franchise, Tekken 8, is out now and its receiving a lot of praise. Currently sitting at a 90 on Opencritic and having 98% of critics recommend it, the third of gaming’s fighting icons is a clear success. This comes after the amazing critical reception of Mortal Kombat 1 and Street Fighter 6, which both received ‘mighty’ ratings last year. After years of neglect, this genre is receiving the love it deserves.

One site that was particularly impressed with the offering here was IGN, who praised the game’s fantastic new additions and online experience, which can often be hit or miss for fighting games:

“Tekken 8 is an incredible evolution for the series, with tons of single player content, an excellent suite of training tools, a great online experience, and exciting new mechanics that make Tekken more dynamic than ever.”

Eurogamer also highlighted how much of an improvement 8 is from the previous entry, which received impressive scores but not the universal praise from this entry. They said this in their 5/5 score for the game:

“Tekken 8 is a marked improvement over Tekken 7 and a perfectly executed balancing act, keeping older players happy while revealing its trademark freedom to newcomers.”

With the lowest rating provided being a 7/10, its clear that Tekken 8 has achieved the critical success that its peers have. If you’re a Tekken fan, this is a no brainer and, even if you’re new to the fighting games genre, there’s still more than enough to enjoy in this package. You can pick up this hit Japanese fighter right now on PC, PS5 and the Xbox Series consoles.
