State of Play stream coming later today

PlayStation has just announced that the first State of Play showcase of 2023 will take place at 9pm GMT tonight (23/02/2023). Like all other State of Play presentations, this will be a pre-recorded showing of some of the most anticipated games coming this year. However, this is set to be a smaller showcase focused on third party and indie games- with Sony likely saving their biggest announcements for the June summer window.

Sony have announced that the showcase will feature 15 minutes of the upcoming Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, in which players take control of a number of anti-heroes and villains of the DC universe to fight back corrupted forms of everybody’s favourite super heroes. This looks to be a darker look at the DC universe with a sprinkle of humour that was missing from the Batman: Arkham games. If you were disappointed by last year’s Gotham Knights, this one may be able to bring out the DC games fan in you once again.

Five new PSVR2 games will be announced and shown off tonight too- which is good news for those who forked over the £529.99 asking price for the headset. The newest iteration on Sony’s break into VR came out earlier this week to some high praise- with reviewers pointing to some of the best VR experiences they’ve ever played. Horizon: Call of the Mountain is one such game that merges VR with traditional gameplay. If nothing, the PSVR2 is a great step in the right direction for what VR could eventually achieve in gaming. If you’re on the fence about buying this hefty investment, maybe one of the games shown off tonight will persuade you to take the plunge.

Apart from the vague ‘anticipated games from our third-party partners’, this is all we know about the showcase so far. Although set to be a smaller showing, if you’re a fan of Rocksteady’s previous Batman games or are eager to see what the PSVR2 studios have cooking, this is going to be a stream you’ll want to tune into. Once again, you can check the State of Play out live from 9pm GMT tonight.
