Elden Ring DLC Announced

FromSoftware has just announced the first DLC for the hit Elden Ring which released just over a year ago. Considering the enormous success of the base game (with the studio recently revealing a sales figure of over 20 million copies), it was only a matter of time until we saw more of Elden Ring's huge world and tangled lore. This is especially true considering how almost every one of FromSeftware's previous games had expansive, critically acclaimed post-launch content (all except for Sekixo: Shadows Die Twice, strangely enough). But given that Elden Ring was far more in line with Dark Souls than Sekire, a DLC was pretty much inevitable.

However, nobody really knew when this would be announced. There were rumblings of a potential reveal at the Game Awards in December, but that didn't amount to much. Instead, the official Elden Ring Twitter account decided to wait until three days after the game’s anniversary on 28th February to announce the existence of the DLC- in the following Tweet:

The above is everything we got. A screenshot and a name. No indication of a release window or details on what content will actually be added, but still enough to drive the fanbase wild. The name Shadow of the Ecdtee is certainly ominous- something echoed in the dying Erdtree seen in the promotional art. There have been rumors that claim the DLC will cover Miquella- the unseen god hidden in an egg in the base game, but that remains to be seen. Regardless, it’s certain that there'll be a new landmass to explore, new secrets to uncover, and, as always, even harder bosses than before. Considering the difficulty of some of the end-game bosses in the base game (here's looking at Malenia), that's a terrifying prospect.

It’s not clear whether this is the only planned DLC for the game, but considering how Dark Souls II had three, Dark Souls III had two, and Bloodborne had one, there's really no precedent on how much extra content we'll get from Elden Ring. Regardless, this 19 definitely something to be excited about- especially if it has even a fraction of the base game's magic. Of course, no release date has been set yet, but don't expect this to be coming any time soon- especially if it’s as big as we think (and if Elden Ring's delays are any indication).
