2024’s January Games Line-Up is Looking Surprisingly Stacked

As we transition into 2024, we leave the fantastic year of 2023 behind us and look to the future of the industry. While January is usually quite a dry year for game releases after the heavy October-December period, it seems that 2024 breaks that trend by being choc full of projects. From new entries in huge franchises to collections of older classics, if you’re somehow feeling like you have no games to play going into 2024, January definitely has you covered. So, take a look below at some of the biggest releases that are coming this month.

Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown- January 18th

The latest entry in the classic Prince of Persia franchise may not be what a lot of long-term fans expected or wanted but it still looks like a lot of fun. The series, which has been on hiatus since 2010, is returning with a 2D hack-and-slash rather than a more traditional 3D action-adventure entry. While fans wait patiently for the much anticipated Sands of Time Remake, this looks to be the perfect sandwich filler of Persia content for the next few years.

Another Code: Recollection- January 19th

Probably one of the strangest announcements from Nintendo last year, Another Code: Recollection is a remastered bundle of a couple of Nintendo DS and Wii games from nearly two decades ago. These are point-and-click mystery adventures that poise you with the task of uncovering family secrets and riddles on an isolated island. The second game as a part of this collection, Another Code: R – A Journey into Lost Memories, never came to the United States so this will be the first time Northern American audiences will be able to experience this cult classic.

Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth- January 26th

The latest mainline entry in the massively popular ‘Like a Dragon’ series (previously known as ‘Yakuza’ in the West) comes towards the end of January and follows the joint story of dual protagonists Ichiban Kasuga and Kazuma Kiryu in the first out-of-country adventure for the franchise. The duo will venture to Hawaii, which is a huge diversion for the game series that has almost always been located in Japan. What impact this will have on the gameplay and story remains to be seen, but it certainly looks to be a fun shake-up of the formula.

Tekken 8- January 26th

Another game coming on January 26th is the eighth entry in Japan’s flagship fighting franchise. Tekken 8 has all new characters, and moves, and looks to rival the much acclaimed Street Fighter 6 and Mortal Kombat 1, which both released last year. With a new unique ‘heat’ system, this looks to be a shake-up of the Tekken formula that looks very promising. Hopefully, this can live up to the bar of quality that fighting games have managed to surpass over the last few years.

With these just being a taste of the excellent releases coming in January, 2024 is already shaping up to be a fantastic year- which is saying a lot after how phenomenal 2023 was. With 12 months of new releases, announcements and no-doubt many surprises ahead of us, its one of the most exciting times to be a gamer.
