Redfall Will Launch on Xbox Consoles with 30fps

In a recent tweet, the official Redfall Twitter account has announced that the upcoming Arkane Studios game will be releasing on Xbox consoles exclusively with a 30fps quality mode. They also revealed that a traditional 60fps performance mode is planned to release at a later date, but further details have not yet been announced. You can see the full tweet below:

While a game running at 30fps isn’t a deal breaker, the majority of gamers prefer to play at 60fps. We saw a similar situation last October with the release of A Plague Tale Requiem (another Xbox game) that launched exclusively at 30fps. While a 60fps patch was later added, the frame rate at launch certainly damaged the reputation and review scores of the game. It seems a similar impact has already been made on Redfall fans- with many expressing their disappointment in replies to the announcement tweet. User @McNasty had the following take:

This is becoming a worrying trend for Xbox releases- with many suspecting that Starfield will be capped at 30fps after the gameplay trailer last summer. While quality modes are grand graphical showcases for a lot of releases, games like Redfall really need a performance option on day one. With it being a fast-paced, multiplayer shooter, having everything run slower will not serve to make things more cinematic- it will just end up frustrating the player base. Twitter user @rob_keyes had the following to say:

This news, along with news earlier this month that only the host of a multiplayer game would receive any story progress, has led to many questioning Arkane’s upcoming title. Releasing on May 2nd, now we can only wait to see if the game lives up to its potential even with these worrying flaws. If you’re a gamer that needs to play their games at 60fps, however, its worth either waiting for a later patch or buying this game on PC, which won’t have the 30fps cap on release.
