Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster Receives Release Date

The Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster, which was released throughout 2021 and 2022 for PC, was announced to be coming for the Nintendo Switch and PS4 sometime in Spring 2023. Well, Square Enix has finally announced the release date for the collection: April 19th. These will all be released on the same day and may be bought individually or as part of a package- much like the PC versions,

You may want to hold off on buying the whole package unless you plan to play through all of them now, however. With each individually costing between £9.50 and £14.99, you’ll be forking out over £70 for this collection. Although the price tag is more than justified by the content packed into each game, these are all over 20 years old by this point- which has led some to question whether the cost of a brand-new release is really worth it for a collection of older games- especially since most people buying these have likely played the originals.

The latest trailer showed a little more than just the release date, however. Square Enix has confirmed that new additions will be made for each game in the collection. The first addition not found in the Steam versions is the newer pixelized font. The biggest criticism when the games initially released was the borderline unreadable and ugly font that didn’t fit in with the fantasy style found in the games. With this new font, Square has thoroughly addressed and solved this issue. More excitingly, players will also now have the ability to switch between the new orchestral tracks and the original music. This is perfect for those who missed the nostalgic bit tunes of the original games.

The final additions include the ability to remove random encounters and multiplying EXP and Gil gains to further streamline the grind of levelling up. These are very welcome changes that cut out what many consider to be the worst parts of the early games in the series. Overall, the pixel remasters are held as being the best way to play each of the original games on PC and will be the only way to play them on PS4 and Switch. If you want to earn the platinum trophy for each game or be able to play each of these ports on the go, make sure you pick these up on the platform of your choice on April 19th.
