Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart Coming to PC

The latest game in the Ratchet and Clank series, titled ‘Rift Apart’ is coming to PC after just under two years of PS5 exclusivity. The game is coming on July 26th- which will actually be the first entry in the franchise to be coming to the platform. This comes as part of a recent push from Sony to bring one-exclusive titles to a new audience on PC- which has seen AAA titles from studios such as Sony Santa Monica and Naughty Dog trying their hand at developing versions of their games that can run on PC.

The port has been confirmed to have ray-traced reflections alongside ultra-wide monitor support for the most high-budget of rigs.On top of this, performance enhancements such as an unlocked frame rate will make the 2021 game look even better than it originally did on the PS5. This is also likely to be the best way to experience the game (if you already have a powerful PC) as the haptic feedback and adaptive trigger features of the Dualsense will work when on a wired connection.

While details and verifications on the Steam Deck version have not yet been unveiled, recent ports like God of War (2018) and Returnal have run surprisingly well on the handheld console. One important note, however, is that the quality of PC ports has been very inconsistent- especially in recent months. With the glitchy and laggy Star Wars Jedi: Survivor being the freshest offender, it appears that developers are finding it harder and harder to put out a polished version of their game on PC.

Sony is also not immune to the growing epidemic of poor PC ports either- with the recent Last of Us Part I being haphazardly thrown into the platform with no polish and a myriad of glitches. Compared to how well the game ran on PS5, it’s a night and day difference. Considering how Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart was praised for its stellar graphics and high-octane action, any potential performance problems will throw a spanner (or, more fittingly, ratchet) in the works for PC players.

The best bet here is just to wait and see how the game plays and check out if your personal rig will experience any issues prior to purchasing it. However, if you’re too eager for that, you can pre-order and pre-load the game now on Steam for a cool £49.99. If it plays well, the highest rated entry in the franchise will be more than worth picking up and seeing how some of the best console graphics ever are upgraded even more on the limitless power of PC.
