Star Wars Battlefront Classic Collection Launches to Disdain

Last Friday, the hotly anticipated ports of the early 2000s Star Wars Battlefront duology were released. These came as part of a £30 collection titled the ‘Star Wars Battlefront Classic Collection’. If you thought that the price point here was a tad steep, you’re not wrong. What makes it worse, however, is that apparently the game is a complete disaster to play- as evidenced by its overwhelmingly negative rating on Steam.

With over 80% of players leaving a negative review, its clear that something went wrong in the porting process here- especially when you consider the popularity and quality of the original releases. Even if nothing was changed about these versions, fans would likely still love it even with its high price point. Unfortunately, though, it seems that these releases are actually the worst versions of the games that have ever been released.

With some textures being worse, increased glitches and buggy netcode that constantly disconnects players from matches, the Star Wars Battlefront collection is a clear miss from developers Aspyr. One reviewer, Hey Holi, had the following to say in their review:

“Don't spoil your impression of such a wonderful game. This edition is no different from the original, except for more glitches and bugs. Aspyr did not even improve the quality of the videos shown before missions.”

What makes this even worse is that you can buy versions of the original games that are straight ports on Steam for a fraction of the price. To put the proverbial cherry on the cake, EA only had three servers at launch for fans to play- meaning that less than 200 people could even play the game when they bought it day one. Although servers have now been added, this sour taste (along with the bugs and glitches) have soiled this ‘remake’ making avoiding it an easy recommendation.
