PlayStation State of Play Slated for Tonight

PlayStation have announced that a State of Play will be occurring later today- September 24th. The showcase will take place at 11pm BST and will last for a little over half an hour according to the Sony Blog post announcing the event. This blog also confirmed that we’d be seeing over 20 PS5 and PSVR 2 games. Many have speculated that this includes the all but confirmed Horizon: Zero Dawn remaster- which had its ratings leaked earlier last week- as well as an ‘even less exciting’ remaster if reports from Jeff Grubb are to be believed.

This State of Play comes after the wildly different releases of Concord and Astro Bot respectively: one being a dead live service game that barely lasted a week with another being the highest rated game of the year and one of the best platformers of all time. It’s a strange time to be a PlayStation fan but hopefully Sony manages to learn from the failures of Concord and the success of Astro Bot to announce and talk about games that people will actually get excited for and want to play.

Players are no strangers to joking about the PS5 having next to no big first party exclusives which, considering how scarce they’ve become, is a fair assessment. With studios like Sucker Punch and Naughty Dog having not released a game in 4 years each, it’s high time that new entries in their franchises or completely new IPs are revealed. This is the same case for many other PlayStation studios who fans have seen as underutilised in the past four years since the PS5 first launched.

With how PlayStation have focused so much on remasters and remakes in the current console generation, it’s easy to see why fans are frustrated. With any luck, the release of Astro Bot will finally be the harbinger for more frequent Sony first party releases. You can catch the state of play tonight at 11PM BST via livestream on PlayStation’s YouTube channel to find out for yourself.
