Astro Bot DLC Coming Later this Year

Team Asobi have announced that we can expect to see some additional Astro Bot content later on in the year. This came from an interview with studio head Nicolas Doucet with outlet ‘Quest Daily’. In this interview, Doucet confirmed that there will be new maps that include speed running challenges that will appeal to those who topped the online leaderboards in Astro’s Playroom. He also confirmed that there would be new missions and bots to rescue but didn’t elaborate on too many more details.

What we do know about this DLC is that it will be on the smaller side- with Doucet himself stating “it isn’t going to be that huge”. Regardless, more Astro Bot content is fantastic considering the financial and critical success of the game when it launched earlier this month. Astro Bot remains the highest rated game of the year and, unless Zelda or Indiana Jones steal the limelight, its likely to stay that way. Its performed well financially too- with the game maintaining the top spot in the UK sales charts until this week where it was pushed off by the likes of the perpetual EA Sports FC line of games.

Even with how jam-packed Astro Bot is with references and callbacks to PlayStation’s biggest IPs, there’s still much more left to pay homage to. The Final Fantasy series, Twisted Metal and Returnal are just a few series heavily tied to PlayStation that weren’t referenced in Astro Bot. Whether we get to see new missions, challenge levels and power ups as part of free or paid DLC remains to be seen but, with how fantastic the original game is, nobody’s going to say no to more Astro Bot any time soon. Thankfully, soon seems to be when we’re getting it. Keep an eye on updates from Team Asobi until the end of the year.
