Ghost of Tsushima Sequel Announced at State of Play

During the State of Play earlier this week, the biggest reveal bar none was for a sequel to Ghost of Tsushima slated for 2025. You may expect this to carry on the story of Jin Sakai from the original game that released back in 2020 but it seems Sucker Punch are taking an entirely different direction for this one. So much so that there’s an entirely different title: Ghost of Yotei. This sequel will be set over 300 years after the first, will contain a female playable character and will be set in an entirely new area in the far north of Japan: Hokkaido. The trailer showed all of this off excellently- already cementing it as one of the most anticipated PlayStation exclusives of this generation.

Aside from the trailer, Sucker Punch also announced a bunch of information as part of their blog post- which dropped just after the State of Play. In it, the studio explains that they wanted to create a new story in feudal Japan while maintaining the legacy of the Ghost. They landed on a new playable character in 1603 that takes place in the surrounding areas of Mount Yotei. Due to the time jump, Japan has progressed and, as a result, so has the combat. New abilities seem to include kunai, dual wielding and even the use of guns that will add a whole new layer to the solid foundation found in the first game.

Of course, with Ghost of Yotei being the first game built from the ground up on the PS5 from Sucker Punch, we can expect to see more graphical details and beautiful environments in keeping with the phenomenal locations in the first game. Sucker Punch didn’t reveal much in the way of the game’s story but we do know that we’ll be playing as new protagonist ‘Atsu’ where she takes the mantle of the Ghost to take on the unexpected dangers of one of the final parts of the landmass to fall under Japanese rule. Keep an eye on updates for Ghost of Yotei ahead of its release sometime in 2025.
