Nintendo Adds Four New Nintendo Switch Online Games

Nintendo has just added a handful of surprise games included in their classic games library.. All four are included in the yearly £17.99 basic Switch online membership- meaning you don’t have to fork out the £34.99 for the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack if you want to play these titles. The first of the games announced is the NES Mystery Tower- which will be the first time the game has been officially released outside of Japan. This is a simple puzzle action game akin to Baloon Fight and DigDug where your goal is to make it to the top of a mysterious tower by rearranging stones in each level.

The next game is for the SNES and will be a welcome surpise for all those life-sim fans on the Switch. The game that started it all, the original Harvest Moon is now available to play with Switch Online. Of course, being the first entry (and one of the first farming games ever), the features of this entry are quite basic. However, if you’re someone whose put hundreds of hours into the series or the massively popular spiritual successor ‘Stardew Valley’, it may be interesting to look at the roots of the farming genre to see where it all started.

Topping off the offerings are two Game Boy Colour games. The first is the short but fun Kirby Tilt ‘n’ Tumble, which contributes to the pink puffball’s dominance of the classic catalogues. With the ability to tilt your Switch to clear levels just like in the original game boy release, this is worth checking out for the gimmick alone. Finally, we have the mostly unknown Blaster Master: Enemy Below. With top-down and side-scrolling areas, this game is an impressive entry onto the Game Boy- especially considering the console’s early limitations. If heading underground with a giant mech in a charming handheld adventure appeals to you, this is worth checking out.

While none of these alone is likely worth the £17.99 Nintendo Switch Online price point, they do add value to the service as a whole. It’s also good to see that Nintendo is still adding and supporting the retro games catalogues even outside of the promised games said to be coming this year- which includes the Game Boy Legend of Zelda Oracle games and even the underrated (and often forgotten) GBA Fire Emblems.
