Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Has Been Dropping Trailer Hints

Over the past few days, the official Final Fantasy VII Twitter account has been dropping a series of ‘Developer Comments’ to answer some questions that fans may have about the upcoming game, Rebirth. With one coming each day, June 5th marks the fourth tweet concerning the game. These are nothing groundbreaking- with some simply confirming that the game will indeed have a story- but the tweets themselves aren’t what’s important here. What’s exciting is what they mean.

With how sparse details have been about Final Fantasy: Rebirth ever since its announcement last year. All we received was a vague ‘Winter 2023’ release window and a brief look at some returning characters. With the release of Final Fantasy XVI only a couple of weeks away, most fans curbed their excitement- expecting that we wouldn’t be hearing anything about the sequel to 2020’s Final Fantasy VII Remake for at least another few months. However, with these tweets, there is a chance we’ll be hearing about it sooner.

Many assumed that last month’s PlayStation showcase would be the best place to showcase Final Fantasy VII Rebirth- if at all. With the game not being present at the event, Square Enix’s strategy of focusing all marketing on Final Fantasy XVI seems clear. However, with these new tweets, although they are counting up, they may instead be counting down to a specific date. With Geoff Keighley’s Summer Games Fest airing this Thursday, June 8th, that would put the 7th day of ‘Developer comments’ in line with the event.

With all signs pointing to a new trailer or information at the show later this week, Square Enix are likely building hype early with these tweets. With everything lining up so perfectly, it seems obvious that we’ll see something at Summer Games Fest regarding Rebirth. However, considering this is the gaming industry, its best not to get your hopes up. If nothing is shown after those seven days, Square Enix will face an unfortunate onslaught from fans with the incredibly bad timing of these developer comments. However, until June 8th, its anyone’s guess. Make sure to tune into the Summer Games Fest event this Thursday at 18:00 to see if this build-up is a disappointment or something worth getting hyped about.
