Monster Hunter Wilds Surpasses 8 Million Sales in 3 Days

As a staggering success for Capcom, Monster Hunter Wilds has become the studio’s quickest selling game to meet sales projections. Between its launch on February 28th and March 3rd, the game managed to sell 8 million copies- a figure that is likely to continue to rise as news about the game spreads. Not only is Monster Hunter Wilds a financial success but its also a critical one- with an aggregate score of 90 on Opencritic.

The latest in the long running Monster Hunter series also managed to reach an all time peak of 1,384,608 on Steam. This places it as the 5th most concurrently played game on the platform of all time above others including Cyberpunk 2077, Elden Ring and Baldur’s Gate 3. Of course, this only includes numbers on PC- so Xbox and PlayStation figures will likely multiply this to much higher levels.

Unfortunately, despite being a critical and commercial success, there are still a few hang ups that have plummeted the game’s score on Steam to a mixed 62% rating. One issue comes down to the strange microtransactions that place a premium on gestures, armour skins and even the ability to change the way your character looks. These are some archaic practices that have put a downer on such a great overall game

On top of that, very poor performance on some PCs (including high end) has caused the PC port of the game to be completely unplayable for some. Constant frame rate issues and crashes are only a couple of the issues that certain players on PC have had with this one. If you’re clamouring to play the latest in the Monster Hunter franchise and want to experience the hype, it may be better to pick this up on console while PC performance is improved.
