Final Fantasy XVI Removes Motion Blur Requirement

In its latest update, Final Fantasy XVI has given players the option to tone down the aggressive motion blur constantly in effect while playing. This comes after fan complaints rolled in early June, after the demo was released. Many claimed that the heavy motion blur was making them feel sick and made long play sessions less than comfortable on their eyes.

With the 1.03 update, the biggest implementation is giving players the ability to scale the motion blur based on their own preference from 0 to 5. This lets players retain the blur, lower it, or remove it entirely. This is a very welcome change, although also quite a late one considering that the game has been released for over two weeks now. Regardless, the added accessibility is certainly something to be celebrated.

The patch notes also included some smaller, but still notable, changes. This includes the ability to stop the camera from automatically following the player in combat or when running around the world as well as doubling the controller layouts to six. This will finally allow players to use the O (circle) button to dodge attacks, which was another common complaint when the game first launched. Apart from this, some minor text changes and bug fixes improve certain aspects of the game slightly.

With the motion blur feature removed, a lot of fans can finally fully enjoy Final Fantasy XVI without feeling nauseous after moving the camera too much. A similar story happened with The Witcher 3, which only implemented a motion blur slider after release. Considering the fan outcry for this accessibility option, however, hopefully more game developers will implement it on release in future.
