Final Fantasy XVI Announced to be Getting Two DLCs

Earlier today, it was announced that Final Fantasy XVI would be receiving two DLCs and a PC port in the future. No release date was given but its a nice confirmation for fans of the latest game in the long-running series. This was revealed in a post on X/Twitter, where producer Naoki Yoshida (commonly known as Yoshi-P) confirmed a bunch of exciting additions as well as update 1.10, which is dropping later today with a couple of smaller extras.

The first addition with this update is the weapon skin feature, which will allow players to use the weapons with the highest stats on Clive, whilst keeping the appearance of their favorite. It’s a small extra, but it’s welcome for fans who had to leave behind their favorite weapon skin because the stats weren’t viable. The other inclusion is alternative outfits for the main cast- including Clive, Torgal, Jill, and even the faithful Chocobo, Ambrosia.

While that update is dropping today, details on the upcoming DLC are sparse. Whether this takes place after the end of the game or if it’s during the main campaign is up for debate. A lot of fans are convinced that one of these will be centered around the summon from previous games, Leviathan, who was mentioned but suspiciously absent from the main game. This could be in the distant past or could be incorporated into the existing story. So far though, everything is speculation until further details later this year.

On top of this, the PC port was not given a release window, but it’s likely to be released at some time in 2024. This was expected, especially since Sony has been pushing for a lot of their games to be put onto PC for a few years now. Yoshi-P confirmed that this had entered development and that the producer would have more information for fans by the end of the year- which is quickly approaching. Final Fantasy XVI’s success shows no signs of slowing down, and it seems Square-Enix is committed to the brand of this game despite being initially disappointed with its sale numbers.
