Palworld has Already Sold over 5 Million Copies

Palworld, the game commonly referred to as ‘Pokémon with guns’ has achieved an incredible amount of success in its release weekend. The game has already sold over 5 million copies on Steam and Xbox- which is an incredible number for an early access game with the full release still likely years away. The game is already the most played Japanese developed game on Valve’s storefront- overtaking the massively popular ‘Elden Ring’. This shows just how huge the game has grown in its first few days alone.

Alongside this, it’s also been confirmed that the game is the second most played paid game ever on Steam just behind Player Unknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG), which was paid before it became free to play. The game, which was developed by Pocketpair, has clearly achieved a momentus level of success that nobody could have expected. The most significant figure for this is that some of the biggest games of the last few years haven’t even sold as well as this early access release. Take Spider-Man 2 from this year, for example. Sony’s biggest PlayStation 5 game of the year sold an impressive 3.3 million copies in its first weekend, which has been dwarfed by the 5 million copies of Palworld.

It is worth noting that Palworld is being sold for significantly cheaper than a lot of those AAA titles, which sell for between £60-£70. Palworld is only retailing on Steam for £25, but that shouldn’t diminish the sheer numbers that the game has managed to sell. What makes this even more impressive is that the game is available on Xbox Game Pass, with downloads from the subscription service not counting towards the numbers sold. While no data has been published for how many users have played Palworld as part of a Game Pass subscription, its likely that at least 7-8 million people in total have experienced the game so far.

A fighting, farming game that merges Pokémon with survival genre features may not be what you’d initially expect to become one of the fastest selling videogames of all time but, considering the popularity of the monster battling genre (especially in Japan), this becomes more understandable. The game is also currently sitting at a 93% very positive rating on Steam, indicating that its worth its modest price point. With its early access launch taking place on 19th January, the game is still very much in its early days- with the next few weeks and months set to boost its popularity even further. You can check this unique game out on Steam and Xbox- with it, of course, being included as part of Game Pass.
