Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door Remake Gets Release Date

As part of the MAR10 day celebration, we finally got some updated news on the Paper Mario Thousand Year Door remake. The cult classic GameCube release was revealed to be getting an unexpected remake earlier last year but, since then, Nintendo has been silent on any news regarding the game. That was until March 10th where fans were given both a date and price point: May 23rd and £49.99 respectively.

This marks the remake as being just over two months away and means that fans will get to re-explore this stylish, classic and (most importantly) weird RPG. 2024 also marks 20 years since the game originally launched back on the GameCube in 2002 and is notably different from newer Paper Mario releases. Unlike Origami King or Sticker Star, this game has a far more classic RPG combat system with a whole host of companion characters with unique abilities that feel far more unique personalities and move sets. It makes sense that Nintendo decided to remake the most well-regarded of the series after some of its more recent stumbles.

While it may seem a little steep, the price point of £49.99 is in line with other Nintendo Switch remakes including The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening and Skyward Sword, which both varied in quality but still launched at the same price. Hopefully, this entry in Nintendo’s remake line up manages to exceed expectations which, considering its timeless art style and touched up HD visuals, its prime to do. Hopefully, the bizarre charm of the original remains after all of the graphical and quality of life updates. If you’re interested, you can pre-order the game now on the eShop.
