Assassin’s Creed: Shadows Revealed with CGI Trailer

The latest entry in the Assassin’s Creed franchise has been revealed and, while promising, fans are cautious about this release. The game, which is scheduled to release on November 15th this year, received a three-minute-long trailer in which we were introduced to the two playable characters, Naoe and Yasuke, who are expected to play in a similar way to the split protagonists in ‘Syndicate’ where one is dedicated to sneaking around and performing stealth assassinations and the other more oriented towards facing enemies head on. Ubisoft has specified that most missions allow players to pick which character they control- affording fans more flexibility in how they approach assassination targets.

The main problem that fans had with the trailer that was shown off, however, was that there was absolutely no gameplay. From a franchise that often lets its fanbase down with dumbed down ideas and uninteresting gameplay mechanics (such as parkour- which many fans felt to be a step back for the series in the latest entry ‘Mirage’), the lack of any tangible gameplay shown has players wary and reminding others in the YouTube comments to not pre-order.

Even though we only got to see a brief CGI trailer from Ubisoft, an interview after the trailer dropped shed a little more light on the advancements that ‘Shadows’ would be bringing to the series. This includes a grappling hook that expands stealth opportunity, the ability to put out light sources in a similar way to ‘A Plague Tale’ and, most ambitiously, as the seasons and change through the game, guards will act accordingly. This includes hiding under cover in rain and snowfall. Although this entry does look like one of the more promising in recent years with an interesting setting and potential for a fantastic story, without any more concrete gameplay from Ubisoft, waiting for the reviews seems to be a safe bet for this one.
