Assassin’s Creed Shadows First DLC Leaked
Ahead of its delayed launch now set for March20th, Assassin’s Creed Shadows has had its first piece of DLC leaked via its Steam page. This will be titled ‘Claws of Ajawi’ and will feature over 10 hours of additional content thanks to info from ‘Insider Gaming’. The price of this DLC and its additional content have yet to be revealed but we do know that it won’t be part of any season pass model since Ubisoft have been phasing these out since the backlash of recent releases like ‘Star Wars: Outlaws’.
Instead of being part of some season pass model, this DLC is likely to be its own piece of content that can be purchased for its own set price. Despite moving away from season passes, Ubisoft continue to cling to some pretty outdated practices- including pre-order bonuses. In fact, it seems that there will be an exclusive mission available to those who pre-purchase this DLC titled ‘Thrown to the Dogs’. Locking specific content behind different versions or pre-orders is something that should have been left in the 2010s but continues to be pushed by Ubisoft even into 2025 unfortunately.
The Steam page listing this additional content has quickly been taken down, but it does offer a glimpse into what Ubisoft have planned after the launch of Assassins Creed Shadows. The game is already off to a rocky start prior to launch with complaints about the pre-order models and a delay due to quality control concerns. The most recent game in the franchise, Assassins Creed Mirage, met a mixed reception. While in many ways it was a return to the roots of the series, it kept a lot of the unnecessary in game purchases and elements from the newer games in the series that held it back.
Hopefully, Shadows is a step in the right direction from the franchise with Ubisoft stepping away from the season pass/microtransaction model they’ve been pushing for the last decade. Should this follow in the footsteps of similar samurai games like Ghost of Tsushima, it could be worth looking out for. If not, thankfully, we should still have Ghost of Yotei coming this year. Either way, Assassins Creed Shadows launches on March 20th on PC, Xbox Series X/S and PS5.
