Xbox Partner Showcase Coming Later This Month
Xbox is hosting another January partner showcase on the 23rd of this month. We know 3 out of 4 games that are being shown off- with the final being a mystery release from a mystery studio (no hints this time). The games that we know will be shown are Doom: The Dark Ages, South of Midnight and Expedition 33. The showcase will likely dive more into the gameplay, stories and may provide a release date for each. Should these all be releasing in 2025, it’s a good start to the year for Xbox (who also have Avowed releasing in mid-February).
Kicking off the year by putting a spotlight on some upcoming releases has become a modern tradition for Xbox in the last few years. It was famously one of these showcases that revealed unique rhythm action game Hi-Fi Rush which was a huge hit with critics and fans. It was also a shadow drop which was, as it turned out, a strategy that worked very well in tandem with Game Pass. Could the mystery fourth game and studio be another one of these surprise drops? It’s not wholly unlikely.
Amongst speculation online regarding this potential surprise announcement, a lot of fans are betting on it being a reveal for the rumoured Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion remaster. This has yet to be confirmed but industry leakers and insiders point to the game coming this year. Any further information is sparse but it would be a nice surprise for Elder Scrolls fans who have to wait at least another 2-3 years before getting the next entry in the highly anticipated series.
As for the three games that we will be shown off, there’s quite a variety. Boomer shooter ‘Doom: The Dark Ages’ brings in a dark medieval theme to the Doom mythos that looks to continue the fantastic FPS gameplay from the two most recent in the series. South of Midnight looks to be an interesting unique third person game that sees you traverse the bayous of New Orleans with some magical powers up your sleeve. Finally, dark turn-based RPG ‘Expedition 33’ has been clouded in mystery since its pretty well received first trailer so it’ll be great to see more of what Sandfall Interactive has been cooking for this one. You can find out more about these four partner games on January 23rd at 18:00 GMT.
