A Bunch of Xbox Exclusives Could be Coming to PlayStation

This past weekend has been rife with rumours and speculation regarding Microsoft’s plans to bring their exclusive Xbox titles to other platforms. Most notably, this could mean bringing giants like Starfield, Forza and potentially even the behemoth ‘Halo’ series over to its greatest competitor. This comes from multiple anonymous sources and reports who were cited in XboxEra’s article as confirming that several big franchises would no longer be exclusive.

For the time being, these are only rumours, but the shockwaves that have been sent throughout the entire gaming community online are huge. If this is the case, this could mean that there are essentially no true Xbox exclusive titles, as these would be available on PC as well as PlayStation. Since the biggest reason that a lot of players buy one console over another is exclusivity, if this does turn out to be the case, there would be very little reason for anybody to buy an Xbox over a PlayStation console, which would be able to play all of those titles as well as their own exclusives.

Its not only already released titles that have been mentioned in this rumour circle, however. Upcoming projects including MachineGames’ ‘Indiana Jones’ and ‘Hellblade II: Senuas Saga’ are both believed to make their way over to PlayStation consoles eventually. If this is the case, its likely that they will still be timed exclusives for some time- much like the upcoming Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. But considering Microsoft’s slipping handhold on the gaming market, this could be what drives them off the edge and makes them follow in the footsteps of Sega in becoming a software only studio.

These rumours were kicked off by the strong belief that Hi-Fi Rush, which launched to critical acclaim on Xbox early last year, could be coming to other platforms. There have been rumours that this could be shadow dropped on the Nintendo Switch in an upcoming Nintendo Direct similarly to how it initially came out. Nothing has been officially confirmed, of course, but the rumours surrounding Xbox’s biggest franchises keep getting bigger and bigger. Whether any of this is true remains to be seen but, considering the implications this would have on the industry, its worth keeping an eye on the news regarding this over the next few weeks.
