The Crew 2 Player Counts Soar Amidst £1 Sale

In what is surely one of the biggest discounts we’ve seen for a major game on Steam, The Crew 2 is currently available to pick up for £0.84 on the storefront. This is set to last until September 23rd, where it will go back to its regular price of £41.99. Amusingly enough, when looking at the store page for this game on Steam, you are given the offer of trying out the demo first- just in case you’re not sure whether to drop £0.84 on the game.

The reason for this massive sale from Ubisoft is likely due to the severs for The Crew 2 being shut down within the next few months or so. The first ‘Crew’ game was shut down earlier this year and removed from Steam. Many players were up in arms at this decision since, although a decade old game, turning off the servers would mean the death of the release entirely. This is because the game was always online and, without those servers, players wouldn’t even be able to play it in single player.

This decision from Ubisoft led many players to sign petitions and raise noise on social media- with the tagline ‘Stop Killing Games’ becoming very popular. The original Crew is now completely inaccessible through official means which, even if you weren’t a fan of it, is terrible in terms of games preservation. Thankfully, it seems that ‘The Crew 2’ and the other game in its franchise, ‘Motorfest’ won’t be receiving the same brutal treatment. Ubisoft announced the following in the Steam marketplace:

“We want to acknowledge that some of you have expressed concerns about access to The Crew games.

Today, we want to express our commitment to the future of The Crew 2 and The Crew Motorfest. We are actively exploring different solutions for the future, which will include an offline mode.”

This should mean that anyone who purchases The Crew and Motorfest will be able to continue playing the game on their own even after the servers shut down. When this update and the server shutdown is coming is yet to be revealed but it should give players some comfort to know that their purchases won’t be taken away from them in the coming months. You can join the swarms of players that have made The Crew 2 soar to Steam’s bestsellers list for this month by picking up the game for less than £1 now.
