Fallout 4 is Finally Getting its Next Gen Update

Two years after it was announced that Bethesda’s ‘Fallout 4’ would be getting an update for next-gen consoles (and four years after those consoles were released), its finally been confirmed that the game will receive a free upgrade on April 25th this year. The update comes with all of the promised features from the first announcement including 60fps, improved textures, bug fixes and stability to prevent some of Fallout 4’s most notorious crashes.

That’s not all that’s coming for previous Fallout 4 players, however. With the upgrade, several pieces of free creation club content will be included. This includes some free bonus weapons and Halloween decorations for your bases. Most substantial, however, is the addition of a new quest and inclusion of a bunch of Enclave-related items from previous creation club releases coming for free. Like most Creation Club releases, its likely that this will only be a small piece of content but its nice to see a nine year old game still receive some official support from Bethesda.

While all of this is nice and all, the big question on everyone’s mind is ‘why did it take so long for this to release?’. With the power of the Xbox Series and PS5 consoles, upgrading Fallout 4 to have 60fps with some visual tweaks shouldn’t bee too much effort. In fact, them announcing this back in 2022 indicates that the update would be coming much sooner than two years later.

The answer to this lies in the new Fallout TV show on Amazon Prime- which launched on April 10th. With the new show, fans are obviously going to want to play the games for the first time. It makes sense, then, to coincide the updated release with the TV show (which has received some pretty impressive reviews so far). Although we know we won’t be getting Fallout 5 for at least another decade, at least we can return to Fallout 4 when the update drops later this month.
