Slay the Spire 2 Announced for 2025 Release
In a recent announcement, developers Mega Crit, best known for the hit card game roguelike ‘Slay the Spire’ revealed they were working on a sequel to the game, which should come to early access in 2025. The trailer is more of a teaser and doesn’t reveal much but it shows off a new artstyle, a new playable character and some snazzy animation teasing the return of the beloved deckbuilder. Alongside this, they also released several screenshots giving payers an insight on what to expect from the game next year.
This trailer was dropped as part of the Triple-I showcase, which was a big indie games showcase held on Wednesday. This was dropped alongside the reveal of updates for other indie hits Risk of Rain 2 and Vampire Survivors, as well as the reveal that other roguelike, Undermine, would be getting a sequel. Slay the Spire 2 remained the biggest news of the event, however. Considering that the original game is considered the grandfather of so many other roguelike deckbuilders including Monster Train and Inscryption, the hype surrounding this announcement is understandable- even if we won’t be able to experience it for ourselves for at least another 9 months.
Hopefully, we actually manage to see Slay the Spire at some point during its announced early access window- which is more than can be said for other mega indie hit Hades 2- which has had fans awaiting news surrounding it since 2022 with next to no updates. Still, things could be worse for fans. As in, Hollow Knight: Silksong worse. Surely though, we won’t be left waiting over five years for the Slay the Spire sequel though right? Right? Until the game is out on Steam, don’t hold your breaths- or dreams- too tightly.
