Starfield’s Biggest Update Coming Next Week

In a recent Twitter/X post, Bethesda has announced that the largest update for their sci-fi RPG ‘Starfield’ will be coming next week- but only for certain players. The update will contain over 100 bug fixes and will improve performance and stability for the game. Bethesda have also promised improvements to textures and lighting to bring Starfield a little more in line with modern standards going into 2024. Essentially, this attempts to implement small changes that will improve the gameplay experience as a whole rather than any sweeping new amendments.

The update is set to launch on January 17th, but won’t be available to all players on that date. This is because its first coming to the Steam Beta version of the game, which will allow Bethesda to monitor any problems with the implementation of the update before bringing it to other platforms as part of a wider release. In the Twitter post, Bethesda did announce that the update should be coming around two weeks later to all other players, so it’s not too long of a wait for those essential patches and fixes.

This is only the start for Starfield in 2024, though. With a multitude of fixes and additions teased, the game is ramping up to improve as the months continue. This is certainly needed- especially since recent reviews of the game show only 28% of people leaving a positive review on Steam. This has earned it the problematic ‘mostly negative’ rating, which makes it far and away the lowest rated Bethesda game ever. Whether these bug fixes and the ‘Shattered Space’ expansion will be able to do enough to turn around reception of the game remains to be seen- but the start of 2024 has already not been kind to this release.
