Xbox Game Pass Core Games Revealed

Earlier last month, Microsoft revealed the phasing out of Xbox Live Gold to be replaced by Xbox Game Pass Core. This will remove the now-redundant two free games a month and instead offer subscribers a shifting library of over 25 games to be downloaded and played at any time. Considering how little people care about the two monthly games, this is an upgrade in basically every way, but does this library justify the shift to this new model?

With a new blog post, Xbox have announced 19 of the 25+ games coming to the service when it launches on September 14th. They also confirmed that more would be revealed prior to this launch, and that each would be an existing part of the full Xbox Game Pass Library. You can take a look at this list below:

  • Among Us

  • Descenders

  • Dishonored 2

  • Doom Eternal

  • Fable Anniversary

  • Fallout 4

  • Fallout 76

  • Forza Horizon 4

Considering how Xbox Live Gold currently only has two forgettable free games per month, this new service is certainly an improvement. From Xbox exclusives like Forza Horizon 4 and Ori & The Will of the Wisps to Bethesda hits Fallout 4 and Dishonored 2, this is quite the robust lineup. While lacking in the third-party department, it seems Microsoft is saving the big day-one heavy hitters for its main Xbox Game Pass and Ultimate library. Considering it will be the same price as Xbox Live Gold used to be, for existing members, this gives them the ability to try some of the best games on the platform.

Speaking about the lineup, Xbox had the following to say in the blog post announcing the games:

Our launch collection of more than 25 titles from Xbox Game Studios, Bethesda, and our content partners will offer something for everyone to play on their Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One consoles. Today we’re confirming the following titles for launch*, with more to be announced in advance of September 14. New titles will be added 2-3 times a year.

With more to be announced before September 14th, keep your eyes out for what you could be getting as an Xbox Live Gold member. With refreshes offered a few times a year, its good to see that Microsoft hasn’t forgotten about this slice of their player base, no matter how small it may be.
