PlayStation Showcase Rumoured for End of May

With the slew of showcases quickly approaching in the late early June period, all eyes have been on PlayStation to formally announce their summer state of play. With Geoff Keighley’s Summer Games Fest streaming on June 8th and Xbox’s conference scheduled for June 11th, The second week of June is already looking quite crowded- especially when you factor in the smaller showcases such as Ubisoft Forward and the Tribeca Festival. It makes sense, then, why rumours about Sony’s State of Play indicate a much earlier date.

Jeff Grubb- who has become famous for their pinpoint accurate predictions on showcase dates- has announced that the Sony State of Play is likely to take place at some point during the week of May 25th. While this is a rather wide window, it does still offer some information on when the showcase may occur. With that week running from May 22nd-28th, there are no prior showcases set to take place. Even at the tail end of this period, this gives Sony’s announcements some time to breathe amid a claustrophobic reveal season. You can see Jeff Grubb’s full tweet alongside all of the confirmed events below:

It's important to note that this could change or could even simply be wrong, but given how accurate this insider usually is, this window is quite likely. With Sony being possibly the publisher with the widest variety of games planned, this showcase could, in all reality, show almost anything- including some projects that we haven’t yet been made aware of. This includes Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, the Wolverine game and, of course, Spider-Man 2, which has had rumours of a September release window set for some time now. Given how successful and popular their most recent release, God of War: Ragnarok, was, almost anything Sony announces will have a lot of hype behind it.

With the recent disappointments of Xbox game studios and Nintendo’s drought of releases, PlayStation is in the prime position to take over the console gaming landscape. Whether Sony decides to reveal everything at this rumored showcase or hold its cards close to its chest, the hype behind PlayStation releases will only increase with each excellent game it put out. We’re still waiting on an official announcement of the next State of Play, but don’t be too surprised if a late May showcase is unveiled in the coming days.
