Steamboat Willie Inspired FPS Announced
Now that Disney’s iconic Mickey Mouse debut ‘Steamboat Willie’ has been in the public domain for almost a year, we’ve already seen a lot of fan and studio made creations based on the cartoon. A horror movie, comic series and now a fully fledged indie game. ‘Mouse: P.I. For Hire’ looks to be more than just a cash grab profiting off a beloved IP. This is a unique FPS game with incredible style in its animations and art style.
From Polish indie studio Fumi Games, the trailer revealed at last week’s Xbox Partner Showcase was one of the highlights of the show. The last time we saw a similar art style was with Cuphead which was, as we all know, phenomenal. The influence from old timey cartoons elevated Cuphead’s 2D run and gun platformer with a focus on boss fights. With ‘Mouse’, we’re being treated to an entirely new genre with an inventive twist that’s sure to make it stand out from the crowd.
The game also seems to bring some detective elements into its fast based platforming gunplay. Between shooting up mobster crocodiles and rodent gangsters, you’ll be tracking down the leaders of these nefarious gangs and bringing them to justice. With enemies being in a fun 2D art style and the environments being in 3D, this is certainly a unique take on the genre. Plus, just like its source material, we’ll be treated to some great black and white visuals with some slapstick audio designs and classic jazz music.
If ‘Mouse’ manages to live up to the quality of that release, it’s sure to be worth checking out. This is certainly an indie game to keep your eye on. There’s no set release date for this just yet but this should come to all major consoles (including Switch) at some point next year. Keep an eye out for updates from studio Fumi Games on their social channels and website.
