Ubisoft Confirms Length of Assassins Creed Mirage

Ubisoft have announced the typical length of time it will take players to finish the upcoming Assassins Creed game titled ‘Mirage’ in a recent interview. The game is currently going through internal playtesting to make any last-minute changes before the game’s release in October and, thanks to that, the studio have managed to get a rough estimate of around 20 hours for how long it will take most players to finish the story. Of course, this is not including side activies such as quests and collectables, but its still a major step down from previous entries.

The Previous game in the series, ‘Assassins Creed: Valhalla’ took around 60 hours for its main campaign alone, which was a big turn-off for a lot of players. From Origin’s vast deserts to Odyssey’s seemingly infinite Greek islands, the Assassins Creed games have become almost too big for their own good in recent years. With so many games demanding more and more time from gamers, the choice to sink hundreds of hours into Assassins Creed is becoming less appealing to a wide player base- even diehard fans of the franchise.

Producer Fabian Saloman said the following about the length of Assassins Creed: Mirage in an interview with French Youtuber Julien Chièze:

“The latest playtimes we’ve received average at around 20–23 hours,” said Salomon. “That can go up to 25–30 hours for the completionists, and we’ll say that those who will be rushing the game will be around 20 hours.”

If it’s true that completionists will only take 30 hours to beat the game, then this is only a fraction of the hundred-hour slog that Valhalla offered. This puts Mirage more in the ballpark of fan favourite games in the series like II and Black Flag- which is certainly good news for those yearning for a return to the traditional formula we’ve been missing since Syndicate.

Being around a third of the playtime of the previous entry, hopefully, this means that Mirage will be far more fondly remembered than the bloated Valhalla. However, it is important to note that Ubisoft is not straying from this gameplay style entirely- with the team promising to make smaller, more detailed experiences like Mirage while still releasing sprawling RPG-like entries like Odyssey. This way, all types of fans will be able to experience the franchise in the way they prefer. With an apparent 11+ games being worked on in the series, hopefully, the latest entry will steer Assassins Creed in the right direction- and its runtime is a step in the right direction.
