The Witcher 3 on Switch Finally Receives Next-Gen Update

Late last year, The Witcher 3 was given a much anticipated next-generation update for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles. This included updated graphics, improved frame rate, and a bunch of small quality-of-life features (like a fix to the frustrating fall damage bug). However, whilst all other versions received these updates in December, the Switch version has been left wanting. In fact, some fans thought that this new content may sidestep the Nintendo console entirely.

However, that has changed with the version 4.04 update, which launched this week. Whilst there aren’t any of the other frame rate and technical improvements (due to the lack of a jump in hardware), Switch fans can finally experience the additional DLC which has otherwise been exclusive to the other platforms. These are all completely free and are inspired by Netflix’s The Witcher television show:

  • A new side quest, ‘In The Eternal Fire’s Shadow’, in Velen.

  • An alternative appearance for Dandelion inspired by Netflix’s The Witcher series.

  • An alternative Nilfgaardian Armor set inspired by Netflix’s The Witcher series.

  • Chinese and Korean voice-overs.

Of course, the biggest draw here is the addition of a new quest ‘In The Eternal Fire’s Shadow’, which was loved by fans when it launched on other platforms. Rewards for this quest are also inspired by the Netflix Witcher series, much like the rest of the DLC. On top of this, you can also receive some smaller items such as new armor and Gwent cards if you link your GOG account when you boot up the game. You can see these below:

  • Roach Card

  • Swords of the Nine-Tailed Vixen

  • White Tiger of the West Armor

  • Dol Blathanna Armor Set

With this latest update, The Witcher 3 is finally feature complete in line with the other versions. It’s unlikely that there’ll be any more content added to the game, with future patches being reserved for minor graphical bugs or glitches. Instead, CD Projekt Red is hard at work with both a remake of the first Witcher game and a new project set in the same universe. We have yet to see any concrete details on either of those, but at least all fans on every version of the Witcher 3 can bide their time by experiencing some new content.
