The Biggest Games with Confirmed Release Dates Coming in 2024

Now that 2024 is only a couple of months away, it’s as good a time as any to look towards next year’s confirmed release schedule- which is already looking surprisingly packed. From January-April, there’s a bunch of exciting releases to look forward to and, if next year is anything like this one has been so far, we’re in for a stacked schedule.  So, look below at some of the heavy hitters with confirmed release dates coming in the first few months of 2024:

Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown- January 18th

The first entry in the Prince of Persia franchise for over a decade has decided to opt for a 2D approach rather than the 3D releases the series has become known for. As a result, the initial reveal of the game was met with a hesitant reaction from some long-time fans- despite the fantastic 2D brawler gameplay shown earlier this year. Since then, a lot of people have warmed up to ‘The Lost Crown’ with some positive hands-on impressions and previews from the media. Although its not what everyone was waiting for, this still looks like a solid entry in the franchise- and one that will hopefully breathe new life into it.

Tekken 8- January 26th

So far, 2023 has been a dream for many fighting game fans. With Street Fighter VI and Mortal Kombat 1 both receiving very positive reviews, this more niche genre has managed to skyrocket in popularity thanks to the accessibility features of these releases. Well, next year looks to continue this trend with the much-anticipated Tekken 8. Still standing tall as one of the original fighting game giants, this entry is introducing new arenas, new characters, and, of course, new moves to draw in even more potential fans to this growing genre.

Persona 3 Reload- February 2nd

When it was leaked prior to its reveal earlier this year, fans were already more than hyped for Persona 3’s remake. However, the initial trailer at Xbox’s Summer Showcase still blew viewers away. With the classic PS2 game being fully remade in an updated engine used to make the ever-stylish Persona 5, fans who haven’t been able to experience this entry in the series should put this on their radar. With a much more depressing and eerie tone than its successors, Persona 3 is a release that deserves a shiny new rerelease so that more people can experience its dark, mysterious, and unforgettable story- as well as some of the best characters in the series. The perfect game for those long Winter nights.

Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden- February 13th

One of the most promising new IPs coming next year, Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden, pits you as a ghost hunter with your own ghostly powers. The biggest appeal here is the gameplay implications- which may take inspiration from the fantastic Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor. With the trailers also presenting a surprisingly intriguing story, this new action RPG is definitely one to keep your eyes open for. Hopefully, it manages to deliver on its dark story and strong narrative premise.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth- February 29th

The sequel to the widely acclaimed Final Fantasy VII Remake (and second part in the ambitious remake trilogy), Final Fantasy VII Rebirth looks to continue and expand the story of the original in some intriguing ways. The first game showed that this team is not simply retelling the story of VII, but is instead adding interesting plot elements and mixing up the bag with new characters, plot points, and more to make this trilogy a surprise for new and old fans alike. With this year’s success of Final Fantasy XVI, Square Enix’s decade-long franchise is still their golden goose- and it’s one that keeps on delivering some of the best JRPGs of recent years.

Princess Peach: Showtime- March 22nd

A surprise reveal earlier this year at a Nintendo Direct, Princess Peach’s first solo debut on a home console comes with ‘Princess Peach: Showtime’, which gives the character more of a spotlight than ever before. With the ability to change costumes to gain different abilities and roles, this brand-new game looks like a mix between Kirby and the Mario universe. With the Princess being able to act as a cook, a swordfighter, and even a Karate master, there are a lot of gameplay styles that look varied enough to keep fans engaged.

So, in the first three months of 2024, we already have a lot of great looking games to add to our Wishlist. That is, of course, if they don’t end up getting delayed. With how great 2023 has been for video games, lets hope that next year continues the trend with AAAs and indies alike.
