ChatGPT was Apparently Used to Write the Apology Letter for ‘Gollum’

In another bizarre twist for the disaster of a game that was ‘Gollum’, new sources have now claimed that the developer’s apology letter was AI generated. Dropped onto social media days after release, these sources state that the below jpeg was actually written by the programme ChatGPT. Of course, its important to note that these sources could be false or misleading in some way, but if this is true, it adds to the bizarre narrative of the game’s development that we’ve seen in the months since release. With ‘Gollum’ being the worst rated game of the year, this new information does not look great for the developers.

With the ‘apology jpeg’ becoming a more and more common response to game criticism in recent years, the use of an AI to write one doesn’t even seem too farfetched. This information comes from sources who claim to work for Daedalic, who spoke to GameTwo. These sources also stated that the company itself did not know about the apology prior to it being uploaded- meaning it was instead dropped by Nacon- who published the game. Considering how poorly the game was received by critics and fans, it makes sense why the game’s publisher would want to quell the fires regarding the project as quickly as possible.

This news, however, reveals something far more sinister. If publishers are able to just generate a hollow, fake apology letter for making a broken game, what hope is there for future projects to have any love put into them. The Lord of the Rings: Gollum remains the worst rated game of the year- with a 34 critic score and 1.2 rating from users on Metacritic- and its obvious that nobody involved with its development is too proud of the final product. With how clearly unhappy Nacon were with Gollum’s performance, I wouldn’t be surprised to see the developers Daedalic be quietly shuttered soon- with the game and all of its controversies swept under the convenient rug.
