Studio Owner Admits Braid: Anniversary Edition Sold 'Terribly'

Jonathan Blow, creator of 'Braid' was recently asked about the sales of the recent 'Braid: Anniversary Edition', which was a remaster of the indie classic featuring new content and a 15 hour audio commentary on the game. The remaster launched to critical success initially- with reviewers awarding the release an impressive 89 on Opencritic. Sadly, however, it seems that critical praise did not amount to commercial success for developer 'Thekla'.

Just 34 days after the remaster was released, Blow was asked to comment on the sales of Braid: Anniversary Edition during a stream. He said that the game had sold 'utterly terribly' and that, for the indie studio, 'the future is uncertain'.  The actual sales numbers were not revealed but its safe to say that they fell far below expectations if they threaten the continuation of an entire studio- especially considering that they were responsible for the massively popular puzzler 'The Witness' back in 2016.

Commenting further on the disappointing sales for Braid, creator Jonathan Blow said the following:

"Well, it depends on what your standards are. If you compare it to nostalgic things, like the Jeff Minter game that's on Steam, or Atari 50, it's sold much better than all of those. But it has still sold like dog shit compared to what we need to make for the company to survive."

Braid: Anniversary Edition is available now on all major consoles for around £16.99 so make sure to pick it up if you're interested since it seems that the studio needs all the help they can get with this one.
