Assassins Creed Codename Red Getting a Trailer this Week after Several Leaks

The next big entry in the Assassins Creed franchise will be getting its first proper trailer on May 15th at 17:00 BST. The game, still officially known as ‘Codename: Red’, was revealed back in 2022 in a huge Assassins Creed showcase that announced several main, spinoff and mobile titles for the series that will be releasing over the next decade. Although there were some promising titles teased, the one that drew the most attention from fans was no doubt Codename: Red. With the shoer teaser trailer, the team promised a setting that players were yearning for from the franchise for years: feudal Japan (even if Ghost of Tsushima did get there four years earlier).

As is tradition for the gaming industry, however, it wouldn’t be a reveal without some leaks- which may or may not turn out to be true. The most credible source of information ahead of the trailer dropping this week is the name of the game: ‘Assassins Creed: Shadows’. This follows what Ubisoft said two years ago when the game was originally teased as a return to traditional stealth gameplay whilst still mixing in open world and RPG elements to a lesser degree compared to the more modern entries. This title was found thanks to a deleted listing on the Ubisoft Store, which also confirmed that the game would come to PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC (even if that news isn’t too much of a surprise).

As part of a different leak arising in the past week, it seems that the game may release on November 15th although, as with most information like this, its best to take this with a pinch of salt. This was pointed out thanks to the Italian livestream trailer for the game having this supposed release date in its description. If this is true, it would line up with previous releases in the series by falling just before the big Christmas season. Even if its not exactly right, if Ubisoft want to continue expanding the Assassins Creed series even larger than it already is, it will likely want to bring back the yearly release schedule that we haven’t seen since Odyssey. Nevertheless, if you’re interested to see what is likely 2024’s big Assassin’s Creed release, make sure to check up on Ubisoft’s YouTube channel this Wednesday (15th May, 17:00 BST).
