Multiversus is shutting down (for good this time)
After its second life following an extended period of being offline, Multiversus is now properly being taken down by publisher WB Games after a disappointing second launch. The platform fighter heavily inspired by the Smash Bros. series hit digital shelves as a free to play offering back in 2022. This was the open beta but received a decent amount of buzz. A few updates later, the beta ended on March of 2023 and went offline while the devs continued to work on it. The game then launched in March of 2024 with a whole host of changes giving it a pretty warm reception overall.

Unfortunately, it seems that this reception wasn’t enough to save the game. In November of last year, Warner Bros. Games confirmed that the game had ‘significantly underperformed’ in terms of players and sales of its in-game battle passes. As a result, the studio have recently confirmed that the game’s 5th season would be its last and the game would be taken offline at the tail end of May later this year. As a result, any premium in game currency can no longer be purchased.
In addition to being taken offline, Multiversus will also be getting delisted from online storefronts. This will make it impossible to add the game to your library from June of this year. Anybody who had previously installed Multiversus would be able to continue playing offline and local multiplayer modes but any online functionality will cease. This also means that the game will not be receiving any further updates or support from the studio.

As mentioned, the game is being taken down due to a disappointing player count and in game purchase sales. Just after the announcement, the devs put out the following in their blog:
“All of us on the Player First Games and Warner Bros. Games teams have poured our heart and soul into this game. We will be forever grateful for the incredible support of the MultiVersus community throughout this journey.”
Multiversus will be inaccessible to download after May 30th from online storefronts and, by the sounds of things, this time, it won’t be coming back.
