The Sims 1 + 2 Collection Available Now

EA’s first two entries in the massive (and weird) Sims franchise can now be purchased on PC as part of a 25th Anniversary collection. This marks the first time that the two games will be properly accessible on PC since 2018- when both were unceremoniously taken away from EA’s now long-dead Origin launcher. Now, with EA making these accessible to modern audiences through PC (including Steam), you can pick them up yourself- if at a pretty steep price of £17.99 for the original and £24.99 for The Sims 2.

Even if you’re a big Sims fan, however, you may want to hold off on picking these up considering their mixed reviews on Steam. Reviews mostly point to a flurry of bugs, glitches, and performance problems that hinder player’s enjoyment of the game. One reviewer- Sorah- even claimed that the legacy release of the original was worse than the CD versions from back when the game first launched. They said the following:

“This version of The Sims is a significant downgrade from the original…EA has not only failed to fix long-standing bugs but has also introduced new ones”

These aren’t remastered either; they work more as direct ports than anything more substantial. This may be good from a preservation standpoint but putting price tags of around £20 for each seems a little much. It may be worth waiting until a couple of patches down the line or a price cut from what many reviews are saying.

Suppose you’re planning on picking these both up regardless. In that case, you may as well grab the £34.99 25th Birthday Bundle on Steam- which contains both of the legacy releases as well as some starter content for The Sims 4 (the third entry in the franchise apparently not being invited to the party). All expansion packs are included for both games (including the 17 add-ons that were made available throughout the life of the second entry) so, if you want to experience the most complete (and only) official way to play the Sims 1 + 2, you can pick up the legacy collection now on PC.
