Hollow Knight Silksong Gets the Most Bizarre Release Window Announcement

With so much being announced at Nintendo’s recent Switch 2 presentation, it’s understandable for a lot of the games to fall under the radar somewhat. Between the latest Mario Kart, a new 3D Donkey Kong adventure and a brand new exclusive FromSoftware release coming to the platform, you’d be forgiven for not paying too much attention to the sizzle reel showing off a few more games coming to the Switch 2 in the coming year.

If you’ve been eagerly waiting Team Cherry’s much anticipated follow-up to Hollow Knight ‘Silksong’, however, you may have been confused to see excitement online for the game showing up at the direct even if you didn’t see any new trailer. That’s because Nintendo and Team Cherry instead decided to show off Silksong as a 3 second clip in a sizzle reel at the end of the presentation- and that’s all they showed.

You may be wondering what the significance of this 3 second clip was, you underestimate the Silksong community. Essentially no official news has come out form the game since 2023- when a delay was confirmed. Since then, there have been vague suggestions of Silksong news but essentially nothing concrete apart from some insane theories about one of the game creators changing their profile picture on Twitter. This clip cements the first actual footage we’ve seen from the game in almost two years now and, while not a lot, it indicates more than you may expect.

The year ‘2025’ appeared below the trailer shown which confirms a release window at some point in the next 8 months or so. For a community that’s been waiting for over 6 years, that’s definitely good news. After the direct, new key art was uploaded to one of the developer’s Twitter accounts too- further cementing that Team Cherry may be gearing up towards a release. Hopefully, we get to see more in the coming months and finally get a full announcement as part of the Summer games showcase window in June.
