Breath of the Wild Sequel Delayed To Spring 2023

Yesterday, on the 29 March, Nintendo took to their YouTube account to lay out an update on the release timing for perhaps their most anticipated upcoming title: Breath of the Wild 2.

With information about the game being very scarce (with Nintendo themselves admitting that they can’t even reveal the title yet because it would be a spoiler), fans have clamored for every crumb of detail they can get. However, the news received yesterday was likely not what most Zelda fans were hoping for but it’s probably what they expected.

The video lays out that the title will be delayed again to Spring 2023, instead of the 2022 release originally slated for. Eiji Aonuma, the producer of the series, apologized for the delay- citing that the game needed more time to be fully completed and polished. Although frustrating for some, the mass reception of this announcement is positive. One YouTube user, nub, commented:

“I am so pleased with Nintendo’s decision to focus in making a good product while also treating their employees with respect.”

In an industry where employee crunch is so prominent, and producers are fixated on pumping out games without a care for their staff, this announcement is a welcome one. Although it comes as bad news for die-hard and casual fans alike, it’s always better to put out a finished product with delays than rushing out a buggy mess of a game. Besides, as Aonuma said: it's only a little while longer to wait.
