A New Game in the Witcher Saga Announced

On 21 March, CD Projekt Red (famous for the Witcher series and controversial Cyberpunk 2077) went to Twitter to reveal an out-of-nowhere announcement of the next chapter in the Witcher saga.

Ever since 2015’s ‘The Witcher 3': Wild Hunt’, fans of monster-slaying Geralt of Rivia have been clamouring for a new installment in the series. Despite Geralt’s story firmly concluding in the third game, there is still a lot of room for further development of the franchise. For example, the studio could develop Ciri’s story as the final Witcher, or even be set thousands of years in the past. Regardless, fans flooded the tweet with excited responses. Twitter user Danyal9600 commented:

“The best game of the last generation is getting a sequel/new saga… Mind is blown.”

This is especially potent considering the ‘Witcher’ Twitter profile had to share a screenshot of their website due to it crashing from so much traffic. Here it is below:

Despite this, more negative reponses ranged from cautiously optimistic to rants against the poor launch state of CD Projekt’s 2020 ‘Cyberpunk 2077. User Kairesu_desu stated:

“please dont do to my beloved witcher game series what you did to cyberpunk”

Fans have a right to be wary, with Cyberpunk’s buggy launch causing many to shun CD Projekt Red as a developer. However, the game was not announced to be Cyberpunk’s engine, but instead Unreal 5, which was seen in the latest ‘Matrix’ demo for the engine. They also announced to be working with Epic Game developers on the new saga. It is important to note, however, that this does not mean the game will be an Epic Games exclusive- meaning you’ll PC players will likely be able to get their hands on it through Steam:

This is no doubt a positive for many, but some still have their doubts on the project. Regardless of where you stand, it’ll certainly be interesting to see what CD Projekt Red has in store for the future of the franchise- at least, in 50 years when it’ll probably release.
