Black Myth: Wukong Already Becomes Second Most Played Steam Game Ever

The game based on Chinese myth that had topped Steam’s wishlist chart is quickly climbing up the records for the most played game played concurrently around the world. Since it launched less than 24 hours ago, it has peaked at just over 2.2 million players- which puts it at second in Steam’s most played charts of all time. This makes it the best performing single player game on PC the day of its release. While it was the most wish listed game before its release, nobody could have expected just how popular the game would be when it launched.

Beaten out only by the online battle royale giant PUBG, Black Myth: Wukong has smashed an insane number of records already. While a lot of this is due to the game being well received by critics (sitting at a strong 80 on Opencritic), most players are, unsurprisingly, from China. A big budget single player adventure based on Chinese myth and a population of over 1.4 billion mix quite nicely to create an instant success. The game isn’t just selling well but is being received very favorably as well: its currently at an overwhelmingly positive 96% rating on Steam.

Considering that the figures we have are from Steam alone (leaving out sales across the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series versions), its clear that Black Myth: Wukong is an instant success and, as word about the quality and popularity of this game spreads, its likely to only gain more traction in the coming days and weeks. You can pick up Black Myth: Wukong on all major consoles now (besides the Nintendo Switch of course).
