Astro Bot Becomes Best Rated Release of the Year

PlayStation has yet another hit on its hands and, judging by critic and user scores, another Game of the Year contender too. Astro Bot, released last Friday, is currently at the number one spot on Opencritic for 2024. It has a 95 rating on Opencritic with 100% recommending the game. This beats out other fantastic games like Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and even Elden Ring’s much-praised Shadow of the Erdtree expansion. This also makes the game PlayStations’ best-reviewed exclusive release of all time- toppling giants like The Last of Us and God of War.

PlayStation’s rival to Mario is a massive hit after just one main game. Of course, if you’d played the PS5 demo ‘Astro’s Playroom’, you’d know how fantastic Team Asobi is at making phenomenal 3D platforming levels. It’s safe to say that critics and fans were expecting this release to be great but certainly not to the level it managed to achieve. Smashing all expectations, Astro Bot is one of the first real must-buy games for PlayStation gamers.

The game has also managed to break the PS4 and PS5 mold of third-person action-adventure tiles phenomenally. A game doesn’t have to be gritty and realistic with a deep story to have mass appeal on the console. Looking at user scores on the PlayStation store and Metacritic, its clear that the player base and critics are on the same page. With a universally positive 9.5 score, Astro Bot has immediately become a hit with pretty much everybody. Take a look at some of the critic reviews below:

You can pick up Astro Bot now exclusively on the PlayStation 5 console. With its charming PS5 controller support (which is the best use of the hardware since the console released), fantastic platforming and charming planets to explore, Astro Bot is a must-play. It may very well also be the console-seller that PlayStation have been clamouring for since 2020. This is being sold physically and on the PlayStation store for £59.99.
