April 2023 Game Pass Games

Xbox has announced an impressive lineup for Game Pass this month including a brand-new Minecraft spin-off, a paranormal mystery where you explore Tokyo, and an eerie 2D indie exploration game with a fantastic art style. With such a big month ahead, let's look into each of the confirmed games for Xbox's game pass service in April.

Everspace 2

The first game coming to the service this month is coming on April 6th. Everspace 2 pits you against spaceships in a third-person starship fighting game not dissimilar to the classic Star Wars: Rogue Squadrons. This is a PC exclusive- meaning only PC game pass or Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers will get access to this one. While Everspace 2 has been available on Steam for some time now, it’s finally coming out of early access this month with a slew of new features. This sequel has received high review scores (with a 'very positive' weighted ranking on Steam) due to its fast-paced space combat and performance improvements from the original. If you need a sci-fi fix to tide you over until Starfield in September, this may be for you.

Ghostwire: Tokyo

The PlayStation 5 exclusive 'Ghostwire: Tokyo is now making its way to Xbox consoles and PC on April 12th. This eerie supernatural action game throws you into the middle of Tokvo with traditional Japanese yokai and monsters roaming the streets. If that wasn't bad enough, you have a demon inside your body trying to wrest control over it. This allows you to use some interesting powers that put you on an even playing field with your foes. The game created before Tango Gameworks smash hit 'Hi-Fi Rush', Ghostwire: Tokyo is far more creepy than colorful. Roaming around Tokyo with supernatural powers may be just what you need to fulfill your anime protagonist dream.

Minecraft: Legends

The latest Minecraft spinoff comes to Game Pass for PC and console on April 18th- and it may be the most different one yet. Minecraft: Legends is an action strategy game that pits you against other players to capture bases and objectives in a zoomed-out 3d perspective. This is quite the departure from the simple block-building and mining from the original game. By amassing huge armies of mobs, you can charge the walls of your enemies and claim victory for your team. Your goal is to 'stop the piglin invasion', so this take on Minecraft has a world-ending threat to really up the stakes. If you're a fan of Minecraft's blocky aesthetic or enjoyed the last spin-off, Minecraft Dungeons, this is a pretty safe bet.

Coffee Talk Episode 2: Hibiscus & Butterfly

The sequel to the cozy indie barista simulator. Coffee Talk Episode 2 is a direct continuation of the themes. fantastic visuals and stories of the first game. Coming on April 20th, if you're overwhelmed by the eerie and dark adventures found throughout the rest of the month, this game may be just what you need. By listening to the stories and problems of your customers, you can develop bonds by simply serving them coffee. With no further twists (other than the friendly monsters that occasionally saunter into your shop), Coffee Talk is already heralded as one of the best indie games out there- and its sequel looks to follow suit.

The Last Case of Benedict Fox

Described by its developers as a Lovecraftian Metroidvania. The Last Case of Benedict Fox is coming to Game Pass on April 27th. In this game, you explore decaying memories as the titular Benedict Fox in attempting to solve his final case. With a demonic companion (strangely similar to Ghostwire: Tokyo), you can traverse into the minds of victims to see the moments leading to their deaths and obtain new powers to traverse the Lovecraft-inspired 2D world. An eerie game full of mystery, The Last Case of Benedict Fox looks immediately gripping even with the limited amount we've seen of it so far- which may very well be its strongest suit.

With that, those are all the confirmed games coming to Xbox and PC game pass this month. While there's sure to be more announced as the month progresses, this is already quite a strong lineup. With each month getting better with its offerings, this is the perfect time to jump into one of the best deals in gaming.
