Antstream Arcade is Coming to Xbox Next Week

If you yearn for the days of pixel graphics and old-school gameplay, the release of Antstream Arcade will get you very excited. Coming to Xbox consoles next week, Antstream Arcade features an insane 1470 retro games from the SNES, Amiga, DOS, and more. This may very well be the largest legitimate collection of games ever released- and it’s also insane value for money. The full list of games is enormous, so it’s best to just take a look at the full list here.

It’s important to note that there is a slight trick to this release, however. Antstream has been a PC and mobile service for some time now, and it’s worked off of a semi-streaming module in that you can pay $29.99 for a full year of access to the games library. Unlike competitors like Game Pass and PlayStation Plus, however, Antstream also offers a one-time payment option in the form of a ‘lifetime pass’. This costs $79.99, which means that it’s well worth it if you can see yourself playing the library in three years’ time and beyond.

If you do only want to purchase the one-year pass, however, there is a nice potential upside. One in ten pre-orders of the 12-month pass will be automatically upgraded to a lifetime subscription free of charge. While the odds are stacked against you, it’s a fun surprise to anyone thinking of picking up the regular edition anyway. As this is a streaming service, you can only pre-order digitally on the Xbox marketplace- and no plans have been announced so far of a physical release, unfortunately.

Before you go off and pre-order what seems to be the best deal in gaming, its important to note that, with it being a streaming service, Antstream requires you to have an internet connection to play. This is the case even if you own the lifetime subscription. While it will certainly save space on your Xbox console, its good to keep this in mind before you pull the trigger on this purchase. Regardless, its great for retro fans to finally be able to have this service on a home console. Just make sure to not add too many of these games to your backlog lest you be completely drowned in pixel graphics.
